on the breed with b&w photos. While not a large book or having information on

FIFTY YEARS WITH DOGS
By Colonel Richardson & Mrs. Richardson
The great trainer and breeder who did so much to help in the training of Dogs (especially
Airedale Terriers) for various purposes during both World Wars completed this book
just before his death. Colonel Richardson and his wife were always regarded as the
greatest authorities on the dogs they trained for their special purposes, and this
book will be accepted as a fitting memorial to their life work.
All of the dogs used in training by the author are Airedale Terriers and this book
contains some unique photographs of Airedales in all kind of training situations.
There are a total of 41 black-and-white photos of Airedale Terriers and 6 of other
breeds. These Airedales were trained during WW1 and WW2 to carry pigeons, be messengers
and lay cable wires and they also had gas masks just like the humans.
JUST DOGS
By K. F. Barker
This is a fabulous dog art book consisting of sketches in pen and pencil all exquisitely
drawn. This book was first printed in 1933. This particular copy mentions no other
year and is probably a first edition. It was published in London by Country Life
and printed at University Press in Glasgow.
The book has 73 pages and an even larger number of sketches. There is a table in
the front listing the name of each along with its page. The size of the book is
rather substantial at about 11" x 8 1/2". The artwork is absolutely gorgeous
and brings to mind that of Lucy Dawson from the same era.
The author is obviously something of a wit and has included text about individual
dogs (including "Gamester," his own dog) and many, many others. There
is a large assortment of breeds represented here including many terriers (Scottish
terrier, West Highland White terrier, Cairn terrier, what look like ADORABLE Sealyham
terrier pups, Airedale, Fox terrier, etc.) spaniels (including Cocker spaniel),
hounds (including Fox hound), Bulldog, German Shepard, Dalmatian, Pekingese, and
many more.

THE AIREDALE FOR WORK AND SHOW
By A. F. Hochwalt.
Hochwalt's 1921 classic work of Airedale history, lore, and legend is filled with
fascinating dogs, people, and events, the famous and the obscure. "A number
of books have been published on the Airedale; so many indeed, that the reader may
ask, Why another? ...
The aims of the author of this book have been, however, to investigate those by-paths
hitherto but little trodden by his predecessors...the keynote of this book is that
the Airedale is primarily a dog for real use in any sphere where one may wish to
place him." Boxer Books
