Airedale Rescue Volunteer Needs

What can you do to assist?

People often say that they would like to help, if they only knew how.

If you would like to help Airedale Rescue, here are some of the tasks that always need doing. Contact me for explanations and details on any of them…then we can discuss how it all happens. THANKS for your interest!

Visiting Applicants in Your Area

It is so important for us to have a first-hand understanding of the people, as well as the physical set-up, in order to make the right people-dog match. Applicants, too, welcome this contact.

Calling References and Veterinarians

Each application asks for this information. For applicants in your area, you could follow up on these, which again helps us to understand the applicant better.

Grooming

We need volunteers who know how to properly groom an Airedale – and care about making them look as good as possible – as in “ready for the show ring.” Almost all of our rescue dogs need to be groomed upon receipt, and then again just prior to going to their new home.

Information resource for adopters in your area

If it is a first Airedale for someone, he may need advice on a good groomer, boarding kennel, trainer, or vet in your area.

Meeting a dog prior to surrender

When an owner calls to arrange to surrender his dog to us, we cannot always take the dog in at a moment’s notice. But if you could visit the owner and dog, a log of preparatory work and information can be done.

Shelter Checks

Checking a dog we hear to be at a shelter to determine if he is an Airedale – and getting him out if he is.

Post placement visits

These help us help an adopter once the dog is settled.

Photocopying

We produce a lot of paperwork. If you have use of a photocopier, it would help our costs.

Making or crafting a fund-Raising project

If you have a skill to make and donate a project (preferably with an Airedale on it), we have the market to sell it. We also have some “raw materials” that need to be decorated with Airedales and need volunteers to do so! Call Joey to ask about them.

Watch newspapers for “Free to good home” ads

Few people know that there is an Airedale Rescue, which is certainly a better alternative for finding the best new home.

Visit your local shelter

Introduce yourself, explain how we help Airedales, give them our printed brochure and perhaps a newsletter, and ask them to call you if they get, or know of, an Airedale that needs help.

Post a Rescue card

Many good adopters find us this way at area veterinarians, shelters, and pet shops.

Invite inquiries to meet your dog

Some people think they want an Airedale just from looking at pictures in a book. Many people want an Airedale because they hear they are good for people with allergies. Before getting a dog, though, they should meet one to test their tolerance.

Foster Care

Like the Peace Corps, it’s “the toughest job you’ll ever love.” Might it be for you? Ask me for our info packet on this critical need, if you feel you may be able to provide temporary care for a homeless Airedale.
